Call for Volunteers – Regional Permaculture Conference and Convergence in Turkey

E-mail Print PDF

Marmariç Ecovillage in Turkey

The Permaculture Research Institute Turkey is planning to host three prominent events in summer 2012. First a Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course will be organized in Istanbul on 30 June — 12 July, 2012; held by two legendary trainers, Bill Mollison and Geoff Lawton. Following the PDC, a Regional Permaculture Conference will take place in Istanbul on the 14th of July. Last but not least the PIT would like to welcome you at its field practice venue; Marmariç village in Izmir, for the Regional Permaculture Convergence – the Mediterranean, Balkans Caucasus and Middle East.

This open call aims to inform you about these events and to form an international prep team for the preparations.

Below, further explanations are provided about the events. We wanted to reach out to a group of existing contacts of the institute, in order to ask for your support. We look for volunteers who would like to join our International Prep Team (IPT).

What is expected from the IPT?

The Permaculture Research Institute Turkey As a young member of the permaculture family, we would like to create a group of interested permaculture practitioners from countries in the region to shape the program of the Regional Permaculture Conference and the Regional Convergence together. We hope to have at least one multiplier from each country in our region, who:

  • is in touch with the local network of permaculture practitioners and
  • can provide us with feedback on local realities, practices and contacts,
  • propose topics/speakers for sessions,
  • help us in disseminating information about the events to ensure high
levels of participation from different localities in the region for a fruitful gathering.

Permaculture Project Aid Worker Course

Permaculture Project Aid Worker Course (The Permaculture Research Institute, Zaytuna Farm at The Channon, NSW, Australia)

Starts Mar 19, 2012 and runs for 5 day(s).

This is a five day course, running Monday through Friday, comprising a fifty/fifty mix of the theory and practise of permaculture project establishment with Geoff and Nadia Lawton - specifically designed to give a reference and realistic expectation of the requirements to establish a permaculture project potentially anywhere worldwide, and to give an initial preparation for the same.

To attend this course you must have completed a Permaculture Design Certificate course, somewhere in the world.

Interested students are invited to watch our recent video promo of the work that this training is intended to help facilitate. This can be watched here.

With current world issues of depleting energy supplies, increasing energy demand, population growth and a resulting escalating food and environmental crisis, etc., there is increasing demand for trained, capable workers to fill permaculture spots worldwide - helping with the development of projects, or pioneering new projects.

Positions within projects fall into the following three categories:

  1. Project Farm Managers
  2. Project Teachers
  3. Project Administrators

Such projects provide challenging and rewarding work and experience in far-flung locales, and can be a springboard for a serious, paid career in permaculture, and towards the accreditation of a Permaculture Diploma.

Permaculture Goes to the White House… With Your Vote!

White House permaculture

I’ve got some incredible news to share with you! The permaculture initiative that I facilitate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA) has been selected by the White House as a finalist for the Campus Champions of Change Challenge award! This means we are in the final round and the general public is now voting for which teams will get a trip to the White House (judges selected 15 projects from more than 1000 applications!) The top 5 winners also get featured on a television program called ‘The Deans List’ on MTV.

Imagine the potential this has! This is by far the most important thing that I can be doing for the world right now — I truly feel that in my heart.

We have only 1 week to tally as many votes as we can – voting ends Saturday, March 3 at 11:59PM est (New York time!) Here’s a short description about the student group that I oversee, and how to vote:

UMass Amherst Permaculture is a student group that educates the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus and the local community about ecological permaculture solutions by demonstrating edible perennial landscapes that are highly productive, low maintenance, environmentally sustainable, and socially responsible!

'Permaculture derives a future vision from the synergetic combination of all our skills, potentials and resources'. We invite European activists from Permaculture and all of Earth Care - People Care - Fair Share to co-create one common space, to link up & come together, to share skills & spread knowledge, to nurture ourselves and claim our stake before the few public performers of the Big Play.

Our vision goes beyond the traditional format of the EuPC - and yet embraces it at the same time. We are seeing a European landscape of activists and their networks - and want to link us all up, because we ARE ONE web of change and the time is now!

We therefore use our chance to reach out and call for delegations and representatives from all European countries and to come and join the EuPC 2012, to share their message and be of presence. We can accomodate a maximum of 300 people on a low-tech infrastructure and can already see the space filling up fast... What a resonance!
